Privacy
Stray does not require an account. It does not keep a trip history on its servers. It does not ship a Stray analytics SDK.
Some features still talk to a server. The table below is that list. An IP address appears because every HTTPS request already has one. We do not ask you for it, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
What stays on this device
- The camera catalog, after you download it
- Matching your GPS against that catalog
- Turn-by-turn tracking along a route that was already calculated
- Android proximity alerts, if you turn them on
- iPhone proximity alerts, if you turn them on (nearest known cameras, processed here)

When iPhone background proximity alerts are on, iOS uses system location regions around the nearest known cameras. That matching still happens on this device.
What we do not claim
None of the following is true of Stray:
- Your location never leaves the phone
- Completely anonymous
- Avoids every ALPR camera
- Offline maps or offline routing
A route request includes start and destination. A map pin you reverse-geocode includes coordinates. Matching GPS against cameras stays on this device. Those are different things.
Camera locations come from community-maintained OpenStreetMap data. Coverage is incomplete and can be out of date.
This website
If you subscribe or apply for the beta, we store the email you give us. Beta applications also include phone type, the state you drive in, and how often you are on the road.
That is so we can write when there is a build, a beta seat, or something else about Stray worth your time. We do not sell the list. We do not share it, except with the services that hold it and send the mail.
